Experts discuss training needs to achieve the 2030 Agenda energy goals

On 16 June, the BUILD UP Skills ‘Construye 2030’ project held a discussion group in Seville to analyse the training needs of construction workers.

Throughout the session, participants have contributed their vision to achieve one of the priority challenges of the sector:

The conference was part of the activities contracted to a research company to carry out a sectoral study to provide information on the status quo of the sector, one of the main results of the project.

For this purpose, and in previous phases of research carried out by the project partners, statistics on the characterisation of the sector, energy consumption, education and training in construction have been analysed.

Meeting with key industry players

During the conference, sectoral training was discussed as a widespread concept, as well as specific elements related to training that promote energy efficiency and renewable energies. In addition, the need to be able to know first-hand what skills are needed among workers was highlighted.

In this way, the study will determine how many people need to be trained and what content is needed when constructing and renovating buildings to help Spain meet the energy transition challenges of 2030.

‘Construye 2030’, framed within the LIFE programme, aims to update the research in the sector and the proposals made in 2012, as well as the re-launch of the first National Qualification Platform. This update will be carried out through:

  • Collaborative work with dozens of professionals from different areas of the construction and related sectors.
  • Analysis of sector statistics.
  • Development of focus groups and interviews with experts.
  • Seminars to support and disseminate the project.
