BUILD UP Skills ‘Construye 2030’ project partners organise third project meeting

On 24 April, the seven partners of the Construye 2030 project, co- funded by the European Commission’s LIFE Clean Energy Transition programme, met at the premises of Green Building Council Spain (GBCe) with the aim of sharing the activities carried out in the first four months of the year.

Status Quo of the construction sector

One of the main results of the project is the development of a Status Quo of the sector, which includes the training needs, taking into account the energy renovations of the buildings that are necessary to meet the energy objectives.

For this purpose, the partners have analysed statistics on the construction situation, national policies and strategies that contribute to achieving the European 2030 Objectives, as well as the existing Vocational Education and Training (VET) and skills gaps in the sector.

During the meeting, the information obtained so far was reviewed and the next step to complete the report was discussed: a qualitative study, through which experts from the construction sector will be asked about these needs.

This document will contribute to the definition of a Roadmap, to be published in April 2024, which will include a set of priority measures aimed at training certain construction professions to perform their tasks with sustainable criteria, as well as to requalify workers coming from highly polluting activities (such as mining), and to attract young people and women to the sector.

National Qualification Platform
Among the outcomes, the partners discussed the creation of the National Qualification Platform, as a meeting point to facilitate professionals from different spheres of construction (political, economic, educational and social) to share their experience on what are and will be the qualification needs in the industry, specifically, in: renewable energies, energy efficiency, near-zero energy consumption buildings, circular economy, digitalization, etc.
This Platform is expected to be launched in summer 2023.

Stakeholder support for the project
The need to incorporate skilled workers into the construction sector is one of the most important challenges facing the sector and, therefore, it is very important to involve the largest number of sectoral stakeholders in the project.
Thus, in January 2023 an information day was held at the facilities of the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences of the CSIC (IETcc-CSIC).

The following organizations that will coordinate these conferences will be the Fundación Estatal para la Formación en el Empleo (FUNDAE) and the National Construction Conference (CNC).
